This is the original website dedicated to the preservation of the history and the legend of Yankee Lake, its founding family, and the surrounding community. This site also offers a way for the community to participate in the making of the documentary "Yankee Lake: The History and The Legend". It will soon be replaced by a modern and more comprehensive online museum.
Contained within these pages you will find an overview of the History of Yankee Lake: from the creation of the lake and ballroom in the 1920s, the incorporation of the Village in 1934, the Big Band glory days of the 40s and 50s, to the dark days of prohibition and the family legends surrounding the business over the past century. There is also a Project page which describes in detail the goals and process of this documentary. There is a Gallery page, which offers a look at some of the oldest photos and newspapers from the years past. And the Forum allows the community to post messages, tell their own stories and discuss the project with one another.
I am in the final stages of researching archives, digging through old photos, contacting Jurko family members, friends and historians, and shooting
the interviews that will be so important to the success of this documentary.
But this project cannot be completed without the cooperation of family, friends, and community members. Your participation in this project is welcome
and much needed. If you have any stories, photos, footage or can help in any way...
