The Yankee Lake dam construction began in late 1924 and the lake officially opened on July 28th, 1925 with music performed by Price’s Entertainers.

It all began when John Jurko and E.H. Stewart purchased a farm on the north side of Brookfield Twp. from Mrs. Townsend. They farmed the land for several years before clearing it and building a dam on its southern end with the leadership of foreman Lewis Corbin. The dam was damaged multiple times by floods during its construction, and due to financial losses, E.H. Stewart made the tough decision to sell his investment in the property to John Jurko.
